Start here: an apprenticeship is a job first

Most of the calls we take start the same way: “I want to be a paramedic, how do I join your course?” The honest answer is that you cannot join an apprenticeship directly with us, and it helps to know that before you apply anywhere. An apprenticeship is a paid job with training built in. The employer recruits you, and the employer chooses Medipro to deliver your training. So the route is:

Step 1
Get the job
Apply to an employer that offers the role: an ambulance service, a dental practice, a pharmacy, an NHS trust or a care provider. You go through their recruitment, not ours.
Step 2
Your employer enrols you with us
We handle the paperwork, the funding and the training plan with your employer. Nothing for you to pay.
Step 3
Train while you earn
Between 12 and 24 months with a named tutor, a mix of classroom, online and workplace learning, and a nationally recognised qualification at the end. For dental nurses and pharmacy technicians that includes professional registration.

Can I pay for a course myself?

Yes, for our commercial courses. First aid, FREC Level 3 and Level 4, offshore and diver medic, driving and CPD courses are open to individuals and can be booked online. Funding help includes 0% instalments, ELCAS for service leavers and Advanced Learner Loans on eligible courses. See
Finance and funding Apprenticeships are the exception. They are funded by the government and the employer, which is why you need the job first.

Routes into the roles people ask us about most

Paramedic
Paramedics must hold a degree approved by the Health and Care Professions Council and register with the HCPC. The two routes are a three-year paramedic science degree, or a Level 6 paramedic degree apprenticeship with an ambulance service. We do not deliver either. What we do deliver is the way most people get into an ambulance service in the first place: the Level 3 Ambulance Support Worker and Level 4 Associate Ambulance Practitioner apprenticeships. You are recruited by the service, train with us, and progress from there. Entry for the Level 4 is 19 or over with a full driving licence held for at least a year. Starting salary for a qualified paramedic is about £32,000 (National Careers Service).
Dental nurse
Dental nurses must register with the General Dental Council. Our Level 3 Dental Nurse apprenticeship takes 18 months and leads to that registration. You need a job in a dental practice first; the practice then enrols you with us. Entry is 16 or over, with an enhanced DBS check and the vaccinations your practice requires. Registered dental nurses can progress to our Level 4 Oral Health Practitioner apprenticeship.
Pharmacy technician
Pharmacy technicians register with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Our Level 3 Pharmacy Technician apprenticeship takes 24 months and is an accredited route to registration. You need a job in a community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy or GP practice, and GCSE English and maths at grade 4 or C (or equivalent) before you start, because this standard requires them in advance. If you do not have those yet, the Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant apprenticeship is the place to start.
Healthcare support worker
No registration is needed, and this is the quickest route into NHS and care work. Apply for healthcare assistant, support worker or care worker jobs through NHS Jobs or directly with care providers. Once employed, your employer can enrol you on our Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship, or in adult social care the Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker and Level 5 Leader in Adult Care apprenticeships.
