Course Overview

The step up from first responder to practitioner

FREC 4 is the Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care. It is the qualification that takes you from assisting to making clinical decisions, and it is the standard expected for lead medic roles in event medical, offshore, industrial and remote settings.

Five days with us in Stockton-on-Tees, plus directed study and three assignment workbooks you complete in your own time.

Taught by clinicians who work in pre-hospital care. Medipro has trained over 10,000 learners and is rated Good by Ofsted.

A free Safe Administration of Medicines course when you finish

Complete your FREC 4 in full, including the directed study and all three assignment workbooks, and we will put you through our Safe Administration of Medicines (SALM) course at no cost.

SALM is widely asked for alongside FREC 4 in event medical, offshore and industrial roles, and holding both makes you considerably more employable than FREC 4 alone.

It is not a discount or a voucher. It is a second qualification, included, for learners who finish what they started.

Keeping your FREC 4 current

FREC 4 does not need requalifying. What it does need is annual BLS or ILS to keep your clinical skills current and to satisfy most employers.

We run both, so you can keep everything in one place. Ask us to put you on the reminder list when you finish and we will let you know when yours is due.

All our prices include VAT, so what you see is what you pay.

You can add the following services when booking your course. None is included in the course fee, and prices are shown during checkout.

Accommodation

Add the number of nights you need at our learner rate. We book the room, confirm it with you and settle it with the hotel, so it is one checkout rather than two bookings. See the Accommodation section below for rates and what is included.

ITLS Completer

Optional additional certification. Not required for this award. Read more about ITLS, or contact us if you are unsure whether you need it.

Prices for all optional services are shown during checkout.

Five days of classroom and practical training, plus directed study and three assignment workbooks completed in your own time.

  • Advanced patient assessment
  • Airway management and ventilation
  • Pain management and pharmacology
  • Major trauma and advanced bleeding control
  • Cardiac arrest and shock management
  • Incident management and triage

Budget properly for the directed study. It is a substantial part of the qualification, not an afterthought, and completing all of it is what unlocks your free Safe Administration of Medicines course.

How you are assessed

  • Continuous practical assessment across the five days
  • Written assessment and clinical scenarios
  • Three assignment workbooks completed in your own time

What you will hold on completion

FREC 4 does not expire. Keep your clinical skills current with annual BLS or ILS, which we also run.

You need a current FREC 3 or an equivalent qualification accepted by the awarding organisation, and you must be at least 18.

If you are unsure whether what you hold is accepted, contact us before booking.

There are several ways to pay, and a few ways to pay less.

You do not need to pay in full to book. Pay 20% at checkout and secure your place on the date you want. The balance is due before your course starts.

  • £95 per night – dinner, bed and breakfast, including a two-course evening meal and a drink

Both rates include free on-site parking and free use of the hotel gym and 25-metre pool. There is a pub and restaurant on site.

These rates are only available through us, not directly with the hotel. Add the nights you need to your checkout when you book your course, and we will arrange it and confirm the details with you.

Rooms are subject to availability, so book as early as you can. Plans change, so if you need to cancel your room, do so up to 24 hours before arrival and we will refund it.

£675 including VAT. You can secure your place with a 20% deposit or spread the cost through Klarna.

Do I need FREC 3 first?

Yes, or an equivalent qualification accepted by the awarding organisation. Contact us if you are unsure whether what you hold counts.

Does FREC 4 expire?

No. It does not need requalifying. You do need annual BLS or ILS to keep your clinical skills current, which most employers will ask for. We run both.

How much work is there outside the classroom?

Five days with us, plus directed study and three assignment workbooks completed in your own time. Budget properly for it, as it is a substantial part of the qualification, and finishing all of it is what unlocks your free SALM course.

What is the free SALM course?

Safe Administration of Medicines. Complete your FREC 4 in full, including the directed study and all three workbooks, and we put you through SALM at no cost. It is a second qualification rather than a discount, and it is widely asked for alongside FREC 4 in event medical, offshore and industrial roles.

Do I have to pay anything for the SALM course?

No. It is included for learners who complete their FREC 4 in full. You will not be asked for a fee or an administration charge.

What roles does FREC 4 open up?

Lead medic and clinical decision-making roles in event medical, offshore, industrial and remote settings, where FREC 3 would have you assisting rather than leading.

Where is it held?

Stockton-on-Tees, close to the A66 and A19, with easy reach from Middlesbrough, Darlington, Durham and Newcastle.

Can I use ELCAS?

Yes, if you are a service leaver. We can help with the paperwork.

Is accommodation available?

Yes. See the Accommodation section above for our learner rates and what is included.

Over 10,000 people have begun their clinical career with us.

We support NHS ambulance services, dental practices, community pharmacies, care providers and offshore operators. Here is what some of them say.
