The ITLS Provider Course is designed for medical professionals who respond to trauma cases and require structured training in the rapid assessment and treatment of patients. It is ideal for:

The course teaches a systematic approach to managing trauma in the field, known as the ITLS Primary and Secondary Survey, ensuring prompt and appropriate treatment for critically injured patients.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Trauma Scene Management & Safety – Scene size-up, triage, and resource planning.
  • Airway, Breathing & Ventilation – Managing trauma airways using BVMs, supraglottic devices, and suction.
  • Circulation & Bleeding Control – Tourniquets, dressings, haemostatic agents, and shock recognition.
  • Neurological Assessment & Spinal Motion Restriction – Best practice in immobilisation and neuro checks.
  • Patient Packaging & Evacuation – Stretcher movement and monitoring during transit.
  • Trauma in Special Populations – Managing paediatric, geriatric, and pregnant patients.
  • Final Written Exam & Practical Skills Evaluation

Following written and practical examinations a certificate will be awarded which is valid for 3 years from International Trauma Life Support.

To refresh your certificate after 3 years, you will need to book onto a 1 day completer course.

Learners are required to:

  • Have a clinical role in trauma, emergency, or urgent care
  • Have relevant qualifications (e.g. paramedic, nurse, doctor, technician, military medic)
  • Have a good working knowledge of anatomy and physiology is expected
