First Aid at Work

Our 3-Day First Aid at Work course is structured to provide in-depth training on a wide range of first aid topics, ensuring participants gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond effectively to workplace emergencies. Each day covers specific areas in first aid, building from foundational skills to more advanced, scenario-based practice. Here’s what to expect over the three days:

Day 1: Essential First Aid Skills

• Introduction to First Aid: Understanding the roles and responsibilities of a first aider in the workplace.
• Primary Survey: Learning how to assess an incident, including scene safety, assessing casualty response, and identifying life-threatening conditions.
• CPR and AED Use: Hands-on practice with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to manage sudden cardiac arrest.
• Recovery Position: Properly positioning an unconscious but breathing casualty to ensure safety and prevent further injury.
• Choking: Techniques for assisting adults who are choking, from mild to severe cases.
• Minor Injuries: Managing minor injuries such as small cuts, grazes, and splinters.

Day 2: Managing Illness and Injury

• Wound Care and Bleeding Control: Handling various types of bleeding, including severe bleeding, and applying pressure bandages.
• Shock Management: Recognising and responding to shock, including signs and appropriate first aid measures.
• Burns and Scalds: Treating burns and scalds of different severities, with focus on immediate care and pain management.
• Bone, Muscle, and Joint Injuries: Identifying and immobilising fractures, sprains, and strains, along with basic splinting techniques.
• Eye Injuries: First aid for eye-related incidents, including foreign objects and chemical splashes.
• Poisoning: Recognising signs of poisoning and knowing the essential steps to manage accidental ingestion or exposure.

Day 3: Advanced First Aid and Incident Management

• Medical Conditions: Addressing sudden illnesses such as heart attacks, strokes, asthma attacks, diabetic emergencies, seizures, and anaphylaxis.
• Environmental Factors: Managing cases of heat exhaustion, hypothermia, and other temperature-related illnesses.
• Incident Management: Prioritising multiple casualties, communicating effectively with emergency services, and organising a safe emergency response.
• Scenario-Based Practice: Simulating real-life emergency situations to practice assessment and first aid in a realistic setting.
• Final Assessment: Completing a practical and written assessments to demonstrate understanding and competency in all course areas.
