First aid skills fade quickly when they are not used. This first aid annual refresher online helps workplace first aiders keep their knowledge current between full courses. The HSE strongly recommends annual refresher training for first aiders.
The course covers the emergencies a first aider is most likely to face at work. It runs as short video modules, each followed by a test. It is a theory refresher only. It does not replace the practical EFAW or FAW requalification needed every three years.
Why choose this course?
✔ Annual update – supports the HSE recommendation for yearly refresher training
✔ 16 short modules – from scene safety to heart attack and stroke
✔ Self-paced – fit 150 minutes of video around shifts and rotas
✔ Approved content – IIRSM, Institute of Hospitality and CPD approved, 4 CPD units
This first aid annual refresher online revisits the core actions of an emergency first aider.
- Role of the first aider – what first aid is and your priorities at an incident
- Primary survey – barriers to infection, ABCDs and the recovery position
- CPR and AEDs – adult resuscitation and safe use of a defibrillator
- Choking, bleeding and shock – recognising each and acting quickly
- Injuries – spinal and head injuries, fractures and sprains
- Burns, electric shock and eye injuries – safe first response to each
- Medical emergencies – anaphylaxis, diabetes, heart attack and stroke
- Managing an incident – passing clear information to 999 and keeping records
Appointed EFAW and FAW first aiders in offices, warehouses, retail, schools and care settings. It also suits managers who want a refresher on first aid basics.
Entry requirements: None. It is intended for people who already hold, or have held, a first aid at work certificate.
Each module ends with a test with a 70% pass mark. The course is approved by IIRSM, the Institute of Hospitality and CPD, and is worth 4 CPD units. Employers can keep the record as evidence of annual refresher training, alongside the first aider’s current practical certificate.

This is a theory refresher only. Three-yearly EFAW or FAW requalification must be practical and in person.
Training a team? We can help.
Many care providers, NHS teams and employers use our eLearning to keep staff training current. A business account lets you buy courses in bulk, assign them to staff and track completion in one place. That gives you a clear record for audits and inspections.
Since 2008, Medipro has trained thousands of health and care professionals in the classroom and online. We can help you build a training plan that mixes eLearning with practical, tutor-led courses at our Stockton-on-Tees centre.
For three-yearly requalification, book Medipro’s classroom course: Medipro Emergency First Aid at Work course.
Does this online refresher renew my EFAW certificate?
No. EFAW and FAW certificates last three years and requalification must include a practical assessment. This course is the annual refresher the HSE recommends between those courses.
Is a first aid annual refresher online course a legal requirement?
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 do not make it mandatory. The HSE strongly recommends it, and many employers include it in their first aid policy.
How long does the course take?
There are 150 minutes of video. Allow extra time for the module tests, which you can complete at your own pace.
