Course Overview

Build the knowledge for all 16 standards with our Care Certificate online course

New healthcare assistants and care workers in England are expected to complete the Care Certificate during induction. This Care Certificate online course covers the knowledge behind all 16 standards. It gives new starters a solid base before they are observed in practice.

The course has 17 video modules, with questions after each one. Every module needs a 70% pass mark. You can study on any device and pick up where you left off.

The online course covers knowledge only. The Care Certificate itself is awarded by the employer. This happens once a trained assessor has observed the learner’s competence in the workplace.

Why choose this course?

✔ Every standard covered – 17 modules mapped to the 16 Care Certificate standards

✔ Learn in short sessions – 990 minutes of video, split into manageable modules

✔ 18 CPD units – a record of learning for each new starter

✔ Clear for employers – knowledge evidence to support your workplace assessment

The Care Certificate online course works through each standard in turn.

  • Your role and personal development – agreed ways of working, reflection and development plans
  • Duty of care – putting people’s interests first, handling dilemmas and complaints
  • Equality, diversity and person-centred care – the Equality Act 2010 and tailoring care to the individual
  • Communication, privacy and dignity – reducing barriers and respecting people’s choices
  • Fluids and nutrition – supporting safe eating and drinking and spotting dehydration
  • Mental health, dementia and disability awareness – how conditions affect daily life and how to adapt your support
  • Safeguarding adults and children – types of abuse, signs and how to report concerns
  • First aid awareness – the theory behind responding in an emergency
  • Health and safety, information and infection control – safe working, UK GDPR basics, hand hygiene and PPE

The course suits new healthcare assistants, care workers and support workers in care homes, domiciliary care, hospitals and supported living. It also suits experienced staff who want to refresh their knowledge across the standards.

Employers can use it as the knowledge part of their induction programme.

Entry requirements: None. Learners should be working, or about to work, in a health or social care role so the workplace assessment can be completed.

Pass all 17 modules at 70% and you receive a digital certificate straight away. The course is CPD approved, 18 CPD units, through VideoTile Learning’s accreditation with The CPD Certification Service.

This certificate shows completion of the knowledge learning. It is not the Care Certificate itself. Employers award that after observed assessment, and can show both records to CQC as induction evidence.

Training a team? We can help.

Many care providers, NHS teams and employers use our eLearning to keep staff training current. A business account lets you buy courses in bulk, assign them to staff and track completion in one place. That gives you a clear record for audits and inspections.

Since 2008, Medipro has trained thousands of health and care professionals in the classroom and online. We can help you build a training plan that mixes eLearning with practical, tutor-led courses at our centres.

The first aid module is theory only – contact Medipro about classroom basic life support or Emergency First Aid at Work

Can you complete the Care Certificate online?

You can complete the knowledge learning online. The Care Certificate is only awarded once your employer has observed and assessed your competence in the workplace. This Care Certificate online course covers the learning part.

Is the Care Certificate a qualification?

No. It is an agreed set of standards for induction, not a regulated qualification. The certificate from this course is a CPD-approved record of learning.

How long does the Care Certificate take?

The online course has 990 minutes of video, plus time for questions. The full Care Certificate, including workplace observation, usually takes several weeks. Your employer sets the timescale.

Does the Care Certificate expire?

It does not have a set expiry date. Many employers ask staff to refresh individual topics, such as safeguarding or infection control, annually or every 1–3 years, depending on policy.
