Course Overview

The Level 3 Award in the Safe Administration of Lifesaving Medication is a practical, regulated lifesaving medication RQF qualification designed for prehospital care and urgent care professionals who have a specific responsibility at work for medication provision. It supports learners to develop the knowledge and practical ability needed for the safe and effective administration of emergency medicines within their own scope of practice.

This award in the safe administration of lifesaving medication gives learners the skills to identify when intervention is needed, determine a patient’s condition, select the correct lifesaving medication, and safely administer and monitor the patient after treatment. The programme is especially relevant to those working in time-critical environments where rapid decision-making, accurate clinical judgement and safe medicine handling are essential.

Throughout the course, learners explore the legislation, guidelines, policies and protocols that govern the administration of lifesaving medication. The focus is on safe practice, accountability, patient assessment, and the effective administration of lifesaving medication using recognised drug routes.

Delivered by experienced clinical educators, this course is designed for prehospital care settings and gives learners the confidence to distinguish the correct lifesaving medication for a range of common emergency presentations, while understanding how to monitor the effects of treatment and respond appropriately to changes in the patient’s condition.
