• Minimising risk, and preparing the patient before you move them

Ambulance aid essentials

• Your roles and responsibilities and the limits of them
• Patient assessment
• The unresponsive patient — breathing normally, and not breathing normally
• Acute medical conditions
• Catastrophic haemorrhage and shock

Medication and medical devices

• The legislation and guidelines on conveying patients with their own medication
• Patients with IV access, catheters, syringe drivers and other devices

Communication and information systems

• The types of system and device in use
• Operating them safely and correctly

The FutureQuals Level 3 Award in Ambulance Patient Care: Non-Urgent Care Services, ten credits, with a total qualification time of 100 hours.

How you are assessed

Upon successful completion of 4 multiple-choice papers and 9 practical assessments, the award is issued.

Knowledge is assessed in the classroom. The competence elements are assessed from workplace evidence or in an approved realistic working environment — which is what our simulation areas are for, so you are not held up waiting for a placement.

Your portfolio is internally assessed and quality assured by us, then externally quality assured by FutureQuals.

Optional components

The award itself needs none, but FutureQuals offers additional components that some employers ask for, including oxygen therapy, basic life support and defibrillation, basic airway management, conflict resolution and major incident preparedness. If your employer wants any of these, tell us when you book and we will tell you whether it is better added here or taken separately.

• You are 18 years old on the first day of training.
• You can take part physically. Moving and handling is assessed practically, including securing patients and equipment in a vehicle. Tell us in advance if anything would make that difficult and we will work it out with you.

There are no formal entry requirements beyond that, and no prior skills, knowledge or qualifications are assumed. You do not need an ambulance service contract.

If you already have relevant experience, ask us about recognition of prior learning before you book.

12 month payment plan

We can support learners to spread the cost of their training over a 12 month period in equal instalments at 0% interest.

ELCAS funding

Learners from the military may have funding available to support new civilian qualifications. Depending on the length of your service you may be eligible for £1,000 or £2,000 towards this course.

Multiple booking discount

For companies who book four or more learners onto this course, you will be given a 15% discount on the total price — £540 back on four places.

Trained with us before? When you come back to requalify, take 10% off your refresher.

Secure your place with a 20% deposit

Pay 20% at checkout to secure your place on the date you want. The balance is due before your course starts.

Staying overnight

Travelling to us from outside Teesside? We have agreed learner rates with the Sporting Lodge Inn at Stainton, a 5 to 10 minute drive from our Stockton-on-Tees centre, with easy access from the A19 and A174.

• £75 per night — bed and breakfast
• £95 per night — dinner, bed and breakfast, including a two-course evening meal and a drink

Both rates include free on-site parking and free use of the hotel gym and 25-metre pool. There is a pub and restaurant on site.

These rates are only available through us, not directly with the hotel. Add the nights you need to your checkout when you book your course, and we will arrange it and confirm the details with you.

The course runs over two weeks. A five-night week at £75 is £375, with breakfast and parking included, and you only book the nights you need.

Rooms are subject to availability, so book as early as you can. Plans change — cancel your room up to 24 hours before arrival and we will refund it.

Our centre is Faraday House, Sopwith Close, Stockton-on-Tees, TS18 3TT, with free on-site parking and direct access from the A66 and A19.

By rail

Darlington sits on the East Coast Mainline, under three hours from London King’s Cross, with direct services from Edinburgh, Newcastle, York and Leeds. Eaglescliffe is the nearest station to the centre, with parking, cycle storage and ticket facilities.

By air

Teesside International Airport is around twenty minutes away and Newcastle Airport about an hour, with direct flights from Aberdeen, Belfast and Dublin.

What it costs to attend

Teesside is straightforward to reach from anywhere in the UK, and cheaper to stay in than most training locations. Over a two-week course that difference adds up.
