HSE Offshore Medic Refresher

Course Overview

Renew your HSE Offshore Medic certification through a flexible combination of online learning and two days of practical classroom training.

The HSE Offshore Medic Refresher is designed for qualified offshore medics whose existing HSE Offshore Medic certificate is approaching its expiry date.

The programme refreshes the clinical knowledge and practical skills required to manage illness and injury in remote offshore environments. It also provides an update on relevant legislation, professional responsibilities and current clinical practice.

The programme has two stages:

  1. Online learning

Complete 22 online learning units covering subjects including major incident management, medical emergencies, shock, surgical conditions, minor illness, wound care and chest pain management.

You will have access to the online learning for up to 12 months. However, all required online learning and assessments must be completed before attending the two-day classroom course.

Your existing HSE Offshore Medic certificate must remain valid when you begin the refresher programme. We recommend booking early enough to complete both stages before your current certificate expires.

  1. Classroom training

Attend two consecutive days of practical classroom training at MediPro.

The classroom element provides an opportunity to refresh, practise and demonstrate essential clinical skills. This includes patient assessment, airway management, wound care, suturing, catheterisation, advanced life support, intravenous access and intraosseous access.

No clinical placement is required for the HSE Offshore Medic Refresher programme.

ITLS Completer

Select this option if you wish to complete the additional requirements for the relevant International Trauma Life Support certification.

This is an optional additional certification and does not form part of the HSE Offshore Medic Refresher award.

Bideltoid Shoulder Measurement

A bideltoid measurement records your shoulder width. Offshore operators and helicopter providers may use this information when making helicopter seating and travel arrangements.

This service does not form part of the HSE Offshore Medic Refresher qualification.

OEUK Medical

An OEUK medical assesses whether you meet the applicable medical fitness standards for offshore work.

Booking the medical does not guarantee that a medical certificate will be issued. Certification is subject to the findings of the medical assessment.

The OEUK medical is separate from your HSE Offshore Medic certification. However, employers and offshore operators will normally require appropriate evidence of medical fitness before allowing someone to work offshore.

The programme refreshes the knowledge and clinical skills required by practising offshore medics.

Online learning topics include:

Classroom 2 day training includes:

• Structured patient assessment

• Practical emergency scenarios

You will be assessed during both stages of the programme.

Stage 1 – Online learning

• Multiple-choice assessments
• Short written submissions
• Completion of all required online learning units

Stage 2 – Classroom training

• Practical assessments
• Written questions
• Clinical scenarios

After successfully completing both stages, you will receive renewed HSE Offshore Medic certification, valid for three years.

Optional services or certifications purchased during checkout are separate from the core HSE Offshore Medic Refresher award.

You must hold a current and valid HSE Offshore Medic certificate when beginning the refresher programme.

Please provide a copy of your current certificate as part of the registration process.

If your certificate has already expired, or is likely to expire before you complete the refresher programme, contact MediPro before booking. We will review your circumstances and explain the available options.

There is no clinical placement requirement for the refresher programme.

  • 12 month payment plan – we can support learners to spread the cost of their training over the 12 month period in equal instalments at 0% interest.
  • Multiple booking discount – for companies who book 4 or more learners onto this course, you will be given a 15% discount on the total price.
  • Returning learners – all learners who choose to use us again will be given 10% off the total price of their refresher as a way to thank you for your support.
  • Course Fee Money-Back Guarantee – On eligible courses, if you attend, complete the required learning, follow tutor guidance and still do not pass, we will refund your course fee.
