Course Overview

Our Level 3 Paediatric First Aid (two‑day) course is delivered monthly from our training centre in Stockton‑on‑Tees (TS18 3TT) and is also available via on-site delivery across Teesside and the wider North East.

Fully regulated by Ofqual and aligned with EYFS standards, this comprehensive qualification provides childcare professionals, early years staff, childminders, and parents with the skills and confidence needed to handle emergencies involving infants and children.

For teams of up to 20 learners, we offer flexible training at your own premises—ideal for nurseries, schools and childcare settings in Middlesbrough, Darlington, Redcar and Hartlepool.

This course improves emergency readiness and compliance local to Stockton‑on‑Tees, benefiting both individuals and employer groups across Teesside and the North East.

This 2-day course is designed to provide in-depth knowledge and practical skills in managing a range of paediatric first aid situations. Fully compliant with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements, the course prepares learners to respond effectively in emergencies involving infants and children.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will learn to:

  • Recognise and respond to paediatric emergencies confidently.
  • Administer life-saving techniques, including CPR and use of an AED.
  • Manage common illnesses, injuries, and accidents involving infants and children.
  • Understand and fulfill the responsibilities of a paediatric first aider.

Course Modules

Day 1: Emergency Paediatric First Aid

1. Introduction to Paediatric First Aid

  • Role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
  • Understanding legislation and EYFS requirements

2. Assessing Emergency Situations

  • Primary survey
  • Scene safety and prioritising care

3. Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • CPR for infants and children
  • Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

4. Managing Unresponsive Infants and Children

  • Recovery position techniques
  • Responding to seizures, including febrile seizures

5. Choking Management

  • Identifying and managing choking in infants and children

Day 2: Comprehensive Paediatric First Aid

6. Treating Wounds and Bleeding

  • Managing minor injuries (cuts, grazes, splinters)
  • Severe bleeding control and preventing shock

7. Dealing with Common Illnesses and Injuries

  • Anaphylaxis and allergic reactions
  • Burns, scalds, and head injuries
  • Bites, stings, and eye injuries

8. Managing Paediatric Medical Conditions

  • Recognising signs of asthma, diabetes, and meningitis
  • Febrile illnesses and other common childhood conditions

9. Fractures and Musculoskeletal Injuries

  • Identifying fractures and sprains
  • Providing initial care and immobilisation

10. Record Keeping and Handover

  • Accurately documenting incidents
  • Communicating with parents and emergency services

Upon completion of the required assessments consisting of several practical and MCQ question papers you will be awarded a Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF), valid for 3 years.

Learners must be 14 years old on the first day of learning.
