We’re excited to launch our enhanced Ambulance Care Assistant Apprenticeship—designed to meet the real demands of today’s healthcare landscape.
Working closely with NHS partners and a major PTS provider in Central London, this new model ensures every learner is operationally ready before stepping into frontline care.
Why this apprenticeship matters now
Ambulance services are under enormous pressure. Long waiting lists and rising demand are straining NHS systems. Services need trained staff who can deliver safe, CQC-compliant care from day one.
Our new delivery model ensures all learning is front-loaded, with knowledge, patient care standards, and essential skills completed before operational deployment. It’s structured to support learner development continuously across the full 12-month programme.
Key improvements
- Full coverage of the Care Certificate elements built into programme delivery—aligned with CQC and sector expectations.
- Ambulance driving skills delivered early in the programme.
- Functional Skills exemption where appropriate—allowing learners to focus on clinical practice and patient interaction.
- Aligned to the FutureQuals Level 3 Certificate in Ambulance Patient Care: Non-Urgent Care Services, covering essential areas like:
- Managing complex medical conditions during transport
- Safe handling and infection control
- Basic life support and oxygen therapy
- Conflict resolution and communication systems
- First Aid at Work qualification included
A track record that gives confidence
Our achievement rate for ambulance apprenticeships currently stands at 93%—well above the national average. We’ve supported over 1,600 learners, with over 90% completing their programme and 75% achieving merit or distinction at EPA.
Financial benefits for employers
Apprenticeships aren’t just clinically effective—they’re financially smart too. Employers can benefit from:
- Full programme funding via the Apprenticeship Levy or co-investment
- Employer National Insurance relief for apprentices under 25
- Improved staff retention and service resilience
Next steps
This enhanced programme will launch with a large provider in Central London over the coming months, and we’re keen to support other organisations across the UK.
