Course Overview

Paediatric first aid theory, at your own pace

Learn the theory with a paediatric first aid online course

Babies and young children need a different first aid approach from adults. This paediatric first aid online course gives you the theory behind that approach. It suits anyone who cares for, teaches or coaches children.

The course is theory only. On its own, it does not meet the EYFS paediatric first aid requirement, which includes a practical assessment. You can complete the practical part with Medipro at our Stockton-on-Tees centre: Medipro Paediatric First Aid course.

Why choose this course?

✔ Child-specific content – infant and child life support, not adult first aid

✔ Nine focused modules – from planning to first aid kits and records

✔ Self-paced – 115 minutes of video you can split into short sessions

✔ Blended route – pair it with Medipro’s classroom practical

This paediatric first aid online course follows the order of a real incident.

  • Planning and preparation – emergency plans and keeping children safe
  • Assessing a situation – scene safety and the primary survey for children
  • Basic life support – CPR for infants and children
  • Fractures and head injuries – recognising them and what to do while waiting for help
  • Shock, bleeding and wounds – controlling bleeding and applying dressings
  • Medical conditions – common childhood conditions that may need first aid
  • Minor injuries – everyday bumps, cuts and stings
  • Documentation and kits – recording incidents and stocking a first aid kit

Nursery staff, pre-school and school staff, childminders, club leaders and sports coaches. It also suits parents and carers who want the theory before a practical course.

Entry requirements: None.

Each module ends with a test with a 70% pass mark. The course is approved by CPD and IIRSM and is worth 3 CPD units. For Ofsted and EYFS purposes, it is evidence of theory learning only – staff also need a practical assessment.

Training a team? We can help.

Many care providers, NHS teams and employers use our eLearning to keep staff training current. A business account lets you buy courses in bulk, assign them to staff and track completion in one place. That gives you a clear record for audits and inspections.

Since 2008, Medipro has trained thousands of health and care professionals in the classroom and online. We can help you build a training plan that mixes eLearning with practical, tutor-led courses at our Stockton-on-Tees centre.

Settings can book the online theory and Medipro’s classroom practical together: Medipro Paediatric First Aid course.

Is an online paediatric first aid course accepted by Ofsted?

Not on its own. The EYFS statutory framework requires training that includes practical skills. An online-only course does not meet it. Combine this course with a practical assessment.

Can I complete the practical part with Medipro?

Yes. Medipro runs classroom paediatric first aid at Stockton-on-Tees. See Medipro Paediatric First Aid course for dates.

How long does a paediatric first aid online course take?

This one has 115 minutes of video, plus time for module tests. You can work through it at your own pace.

There are 150 minutes of video. Allow extra time for the module tests, which you can complete at your own pace.
