Course Overview
Epilepsy awareness training online so you know what to do in a seizure
Witnessing a seizure can be frightening if you do not know what to expect. Calm, correct action keeps the person safe. This epilepsy awareness training online explains seizures and how to respond.
The course has three modules and 30 minutes of video. It covers what epilepsy is, the types of seizure and what to do. It suits care staff working with children or adults, and anyone wanting to add to first aid training.
Why choose this course?
✔ Seizure types explained – the course refers to around 40 types of seizure.
✔ Practical response – clear steps for when you witness a seizure.
✔ Complements first aid – adds condition-specific knowledge to first aid skills.
✔ CPD approved – carries 2 CPD units.
The modules move from understanding epilepsy to acting during a seizure.
- What epilepsy is – a neurological condition and how it affects the brain.
- Diagnosis – how epilepsy is investigated and confirmed.
- Types of seizure – how different seizures look and what happens in the brain.
- Triggers – common factors that can make a seizure more likely.
- Treatment – the medicines and other treatments people may receive.
- What to do – keeping the person safe, timing the seizure and when to call 999.
- Rights and inclusion – epilepsy can be a disability under the Equality Act 2010.
The course is aimed mainly at care staff working with children or adults. It also suits teaching assistants, nursery staff, youth workers and workplace first aiders. Family carers and anyone curious about epilepsy can take it too.
Each of the three modules has a 70% pass mark. Learners who pass all modules receive a certificate of completion. The course is CPD approved and carries 2 CPD units. Care providers can use it as evidence for CQC, and schools and nurseries as part of staff training records.

Training a team? We can help.
Many care providers, NHS teams and employers use our eLearning to keep staff training current. A business account lets you buy courses in bulk, assign them to staff and track completion in one place. That gives you a clear record for audits and inspections.
Since 2008, Medipro has trained thousands of health and care professionals in the classroom and online. We can help you build a training plan that mixes eLearning with practical, tutor-led courses at our centres.
Does epilepsy awareness training online cover rescue medication?
No. It covers awareness, seizure types and first response. Giving emergency rescue medication needs separate, practical training approved by your employer.
When should I call 999 for a seizure?
Guidance is to call 999 if a seizure lasts more than five minutes, or if one seizure follows another. Also call if the person is injured or it is their first seizure. Always follow the person’s care plan where one exists.
How often should epilepsy training be refreshed?
There is no legal expiry. Many employers refresh this training annually or every 1–3 years, depending on policy.
