Course Overview

Treat people fairly and know the law: equality and diversity training online

Employers have legal duties to prevent discrimination at work. Staff need to understand them too. This equality and diversity training online explains the Equality Act 2010 and what fair treatment looks like in practice.

The course has ten video modules. Each module needs a 70% pass mark. It suits any workplace, including health and social care.

Why choose this course?

✔ Built on the Equality Act 2010 – the nine protected characteristics and types of discrimination

✔ Looks inward – how values, attitudes and stereotypes shape behaviour

✔ Covers the bigger picture – institutional discrimination and how organisations can address it

✔ 3 CPD units – 70 minutes of video, self-paced

This equality and diversity training online works through ten short modules.

  • Equality and diversity – what each term means and why they work together
  • The law – the Equality Act 2010 and the nine protected characteristics
  • Discrimination – direct and indirect discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • Promoting diversity – practical ways to include people at work and in services
  • Values, attitudes and beliefs – how personal views influence the way we act
  • Stereotypes and prejudice – how they develop and lead to unfair treatment
  • Institutional discrimination – how policies and culture can disadvantage groups
  • Valuing others and feedback – respecting difference and handling resistance to challenge

The course suits employees and managers in any sector. It works well for care staff, NHS teams, receptionists and volunteers who serve the public

Pass each module at 70% to complete the course. The course is CPD approved, 3 CPD units, through VideoTile Learning’s accreditation with The CPD Certification Service. Employers can use training records to help show they have taken reasonable steps to prevent discrimination.

Training a team? We can help.

Many care providers, NHS teams and employers use our eLearning to keep staff training current. A business account lets you buy courses in bulk, assign them to staff and track completion in one place. That gives you a clear record for audits and inspections.

Since 2008, Medipro has trained thousands of health and care professionals in the classroom and online. We can help you build a training plan that mixes eLearning with practical, tutor-led courses at our centres.

Is equality and diversity training a legal requirement?

The Equality Act 2010 does not name a specific course. However, employers can be liable for staff discrimination unless they took all reasonable steps to prevent it. Training is a common part of those steps.

What are the nine protected characteristics?

Age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. This equality and diversity training online covers each one.

How often should staff refresh equality and diversity training?

There is no legal expiry. Many employers refresh this training annually or every 1–3 years, depending on policy.
