Course Overview

Essential Medical Emergencies and Life Support for the Whole Dental Team — Mostly Online, One Hour in Centre

This CPD-accredited annual update keeps the whole dental team compliant and confident in managing medical emergencies. It is built around the GDC and Resuscitation Council UK requirements, with all the underpinning theory delivered through nine online eLearning modules — from the ABCDE approach and BLS to airway management, emergency drugs, the AED, team roles, equipment audit and special considerations for domiciliary and sedation settings. That means the only time in the training room is a single focused one-hour hands-on visit, where the team practises and is signed off as competent for the year. The eLearning and the practical hour together meet the GDC’s recommended annual medical-emergencies CPD.

The in-centre hour covers high-quality CPR and AED use, airway management with oxygen and bag-valve-mask, and the emergency drugs including IM adrenaline for anaphylaxis — brought together in a team simulation. Delivered by experienced clinical educators.

We can also come to you. For teams of 10 or more, we deliver the hands-on session on-site at your practice — the whole team trained together, with no travel and minimal disruption. Everyone completes the eLearning beforehand and we bring the training to you.

Across the nine online eLearning modules and the one-hour hands-on visit, you will be able to:

  • Recognise and prevent emergencies – understand the medical emergencies seen in dental practice and how to reduce their risk.
  • Assess with ABCDE – systematically assess and prioritise a deteriorating patient.
  • Deliver BLS and use an AED – high-quality CPR for adults and children, the recovery position and choking, and safe defibrillation.
  • Manage the airway – airway manoeuvres, oxygen and bag-valve-mask ventilation.
  • Use the emergency drugs – indications, preparation and administration, including IM adrenaline for anaphylaxis.
  • Work as a team – roles, communication, calling for help and emergency simulation.
  • Keep equipment ready – selection, maintenance and audit of emergency drugs and equipment.
  • Manage special settings – considerations for domiciliary care and sedation.

On completion, delegates receive a MediPro CPD certificate confirming their annual medical emergencies, Basic Life Support and AED update (valid for 12 months), aligned to GDC and Resuscitation Council UK guidance and providing verifiable CPD for every team member.

No formal entry requirements. Suitable for the whole dental team, clinical and non-clinical. Delegates complete the online eLearning before attending the one-hour visit.
