Our 1-day Emergency Paediatric First Aid course is delivered monthly from our training centre in Stockton-on-Tees (TS18 3TT) and is available for on-site delivery across Teesside and the North East.

Fully aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and regulated by Ofqual through Qualsafe Awards, this Level 3 course equips learners with essential life-saving skills to respond to emergencies involving infants and young children.

Syllabus for the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid

This comprehensive 1-day course is designed to meet the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements and provides learners with the skills and knowledge to deal with a range of paediatric emergencies effectively.

1 day (6 contact hours)

Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Assess emergency situations quickly and efficiently.
  • Administer life-saving first aid to infants and children.
  • Understand the responsibilities of a paediatric first aider.

Course Modules

1. Introduction to Paediatric First Aid

  • Role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
  • Assessing an emergency situation

2. Resuscitation and Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Performing CPR on infants and children
  • Safe use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED)

3. Management of an Unresponsive Child

  • Recovery position for infants and children
  • Responding to seizures, including febrile seizures

4. Choking and Airway Management

  • Identifying and managing choking in infants and children

5. Treating Wounds and Bleeding

  • Managing minor wounds, cuts, and grazes
  • Responding to severe bleeding and shock

6. Dealing with Common Paediatric Emergencies

  • Anaphylaxis and allergic reactions
  • Burns and scalds
  • Managing bites, stings, and minor head injuries

7. Record Keeping and Handover

  • Documenting incidents accurately
  • Effective communication with emergency services

Upon completion of the required assessments consisting of several practical and MCQ question papers you will be awarded a Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric Frist Aid (RQF), valid for 3 years.

Learners must be 14 years old on the first day of learning.
