Course Overview
Know the signs and the next steps: safeguarding children training online
If your work brings you into contact with children, you share responsibility for their safety. This safeguarding children training online helps you recognise possible abuse and respond correctly. It reflects the approach in Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023.
The course has five video modules with questions after each one. You need 70% to pass each module. Learn at your own pace on any device.
Why choose this course?
✔ Current guidance – reflects Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023
✔ Why children stay silent – understand the barriers that stop a child telling
✔ Practical response – what to say, what not to say and who to contact
✔ Short and focused – 75 minutes of video in five modules
This safeguarding children training online moves from the basics to the legal framework.
- What safeguarding means – the difference between safeguarding and child protection
- Categories of abuse – physical, emotional and sexual abuse, and neglect
- Who may harm children – family members, people in trusted roles, peers and online contacts
- Why children may not tell – fear, loyalty, shame and communication barriers
- Recognising signs – changes in behaviour, injuries and other indicators
- Acting on a concern – responding to a disclosure and passing it to your designated lead
- Legislation – the Children Acts 1989 and 2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023
The course suits nursery staff, teaching assistants, sports coaches, youth workers and children’s social care staff. NHS and ambulance staff who meet children through their work will also benefit.
Pass each module at 70% to complete the course and receive your certificate. The course is CPD approved, 3 CPD units, through VideoTile Learning’s accreditation with The CPD Certification Service. Employers can keep certificates in training records as evidence for CQC inspection.

Is safeguarding children training online enough for schools?
Keeping Children Safe in Education requires staff to have safeguarding training and regular updates. Schools decide which training meets their needs. Check with your designated safeguarding lead.
What level is this safeguarding course?
It covers the awareness knowledge expected of anyone who works with children. Designated leads and specialist roles need further training set by their employer or local safeguarding partnership.
How often should safeguarding children training be refreshed?
There is no single legal expiry. Many employers refresh this training annually or every 1–3 years, depending on policy. Schools should also follow Keeping Children Safe in Education.
