Course Overview
Learning disability awareness training online with a person-centred focus
People with a learning disability have the right to care that fits their needs and choices. Staff who understand learning disability can support that well. This learning disability awareness training online explains the causes, effects and good practice.
The course has eight modules and 50 minutes of video. It covers the basics, person-centred care, meeting needs and the legal framework. It also looks at overcoming stigma and safeguarding.
Why choose this course?
✔ Eight short modules – each one focused on a single topic.
✔ Person-centred – puts the individual’s needs and choices at the centre.
✔ Covers the law – includes the legal framework and safeguarding.
✔ CPD approved – carries 2 CPD units.
The modules build from basic understanding to the legal and safeguarding context.
- The basics – what a learning disability is and how it differs from a learning difficulty.
- Types and causes – common causes and how they affect daily life.
- New understanding – how attitudes and approaches have changed over time.
- Person-centred approach – planning support around the person, not the service.
- Meeting needs – communication, health, independence and daily living, across three modules.
- Role of management – how leaders shape good practice in a service.
- Legal framework and safeguarding – Equality Act 2010 rights and Care Act 2014 safeguarding duties.
The course suits support workers, care assistants, team leaders and managers. It fits supported living, residential care, day services and community teams. Staff in health settings who meet people with a learning disability will also benefit.
Each of the eight modules has a 70% pass mark. Learners who pass all modules receive a certificate of completion. The course is CPD approved and carries 2 CPD units. Providers can use it as evidence of awareness training for CQC inspection.
