Course Overview

Infection control training online that fits around your shifts

Anyone who gives care, cleans or handles equipment can spread infection without knowing it. This infection control training online explains how that happens and how to stop it. It suits staff in care homes, home care, clinics and other health settings.

The course is a one-hour video programme in seven short modules. You work through it at your own pace on a computer, tablet or phone. Each module ends with questions to check your understanding.

Why choose this course?

✔ Short and focused – one hour of video, split into seven modules.

✔ Dual approval – approved by CPD and IIRSM, with 2 CPD units.

✔ Practical focus – links theory to daily tasks such as cleaning and decontamination.

✔ Try first – a free trial lets you see the format before you buy.

This infection control training online covers the science and the daily habits that keep people safe.

  • What IPC means – what infection prevention and control is and why it matters.
  • Impact of infection – the effect of good and poor practice on people and services.
  • Legislation – the law and guidance that set out duties around infection control.
  • Microorganisms – the differences between bacteria, viruses, fungi and other organisms.
  • Transmission – how bacteria move from person to person and via surfaces.
  • The chain of infection – each link in the chain and where you can break it.
  • Prevention and control – hand hygiene, protective equipment and safe working.
  • Cleaning and decontamination – the difference between cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation.

The course suits care assistants, support workers, housekeeping staff and healthcare assistants. It also works for new starters in GP surgeries, dental practices and day services. Managers can use it as a refresher for whole teams.

Each module has a 70% pass mark. Learners who pass all modules receive a certificate of completion. The course is approved by CPD and IIRSM and carries 2 CPD units. Employers can keep certificates as evidence of training for CQC inspection. This supports the Health and Social Care Act 2008 Code of Practice on infection prevention and control.

Training a team? We can help.

Many care providers, NHS teams and employers use our eLearning to keep staff training current. A business account lets you buy courses in bulk, assign them to staff and track completion in one place. That gives you a clear record for audits and inspections.

Since 2008, Medipro has trained thousands of health and care professionals in the classroom and online. We can help you build a training plan that mixes eLearning with practical, tutor-led courses at our centres.

Is infection control training online accepted by CQC?

CQC does not approve individual courses. It looks for evidence that staff have suitable training for their role. A CPD-approved certificate, kept with your training records, helps show this.

How often should infection control training be refreshed?

There is no fixed legal expiry. Many employers refresh this training annually or every 1–3 years, depending on policy. Check your own organisation’s training matrix.

Does this course include practical assessment?

No, it covers knowledge only. Your employer should check practical skills such as hand washing and putting on and removing PPE in the workplace.
