Course Overview

End of life care training online for staff who support people in their final days

Caring for someone who is dying is one of the most important parts of care work. It can also be one of the hardest. This end of life care training online helps staff know what to expect and how to respond.

The course runs to 25 minutes of video across five modules. It covers emotions, patterns of dying, the dying process and support afterwards. It is short enough to complete in a single break.

Why choose this course?

✔ Short format – 25 minutes of video, ideal for induction or refresher.

✔ Covers emotions – addresses the feelings of the person, family and staff.

✔ Team working – explains how care staff work with other professionals.

✔ CPD approved – carries 2 CPD units.

The modules follow the path from approaching death to support afterwards.

  • What end of life care means – the aims of care in the final stage of life.
  • Feelings and emotions – how the person, family and staff may react.
  • Patterns of dying – the different ways people approach the end of life.
  • The dying process – the physical changes staff may see in the last days and hours.
  • Working with others – the role of nurses, GPs, palliative teams and chaplains.
  • Support and aftercare – care after death and support for those left behind.

The course suits care assistants, senior carers, healthcare assistants and domiciliary care workers. It fits care homes, nursing homes, hospices and home care. It is also useful for new staff before their first experience of a death at work.

Each of the five modules has a 70% pass mark. Learners who pass all modules receive a certificate of completion. The course is CPD approved and carries 2 CPD units. Providers can keep certificates as evidence of end of life care training for CQC inspection.

Since 2008, Medipro has trained thousands of health and care professionals in the classroom and online. We can help you build a training plan that mixes eLearning with practical, tutor-led courses at our centres.

Pair with Mental Capacity Act and DoLS. Capacity decisions often arise near the end of life.

Is end of life care training online suitable for new carers?

Yes. It is an awareness course that needs no prior knowledge. It helps new staff understand what they may see and how to respond.

Does this course cover clinical palliative care?

No. It is an awareness course, not clinical training. Symptom control and medication remain the role of registered nurses and the wider clinical team.

How often should end of life care training be refreshed?

There is no legal expiry. Many employers refresh this training annually or every 1–3 years, depending on policy.
