MediPro has been awarded a new contract with South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWAST), following a competitive tender, with delivery beginning in January 2027.

Under the contract, MediPro will support the training of hundreds of apprentice emergency care assistants through the Level 3 Ambulance Support Worker (Emergency) apprenticeship. These are the people who will go on to crew emergency ambulances, respond to 999 calls and care for patients across the South West — some of the most demanding and rewarding roles in healthcare.

A growing track record with NHS ambulance services

SWAST becomes the fourth English NHS ambulance service MediPro will have supported with apprenticeship delivery, alongside London Ambulance Service, East of England Ambulance Service and North East Ambulance Service. You can read more about this work on our case studies page.

The award cements MediPro’s expertise in the ambulance apprenticeship field. It reflects our proven ability to mobilise quickly and support large-scale delivery to tight timescales, anywhere in the UK. Increasingly, MediPro is the go-to partner for NHS ambulance services and large private organisations that want to use the apprenticeship route for their workforce, or add additional capacity quickly to support large-scale projects.

“Winning this contract through a competitive process is a real achievement for the team. SWAST becomes the fourth English NHS ambulance service we will have supported with their apprenticeship delivery, and that track record speaks for itself.

It also comes at a genuinely challenging time for our sector. Across the UK, both independent and NHS ambulance services are under real pressure. A number of apprenticeship training providers and private ambulance companies have closed, and services are having to make difficult decisions, including cuts and redundancies. Supporting the next generation of ambulance professionals has never been more important, and it is work we are well placed to do alongside SWAST.”
