Oral Health Practitioners play a key role in preventative dental care, patient education, and community health initiatives. The Level 4 Oral Health Practitioner Apprenticeship equips apprentices with the clinical skills and knowledge to support dentists, hygienists, and other healthcare professionals in promoting good oral hygiene and preventative treatments.

This apprenticeship is ideal for dental practices, NHS dental services, schools, and community healthcare providers looking to develop skilled oral health professionals who can deliver patient education, fluoride treatments, and oral health assessments.

This programme develops highly competent oral health practitioners who can work alongside dentists and healthcare teams to provide preventative care. Key learning areas include:

  • Oral Health Assessments – Identifying risk factors for gum disease and tooth decay.
  • Preventative Treatments – Applying fluoride varnishes and oral hygiene treatments.
  • Patient & Community Education – Delivering oral health promotion campaigns in schools, care homes, and communities.

  • Dental Anatomy & Physiology – Understanding oral structures, conditions, and treatment options.
  • Compliance & Infection Control – Ensuring adherence to General Dental Council (GDC) regulations and NHS infection prevention standards.

Apprentices will also gain Maths and English Level 2 qualifications (if not already achieved).

By the end of the programme and to become a Oral Health Practitioner, Apprentices will achieved the following:

  • Level 2 functional skills in English & Maths, if not already achieved
  • Level 4 Oral Health Practitioner Apprenticeship

 

Apprentices need to be 16 years or older and be working in dental practices or healthcare settings and be a current registered Dental Nurse with the GDC.
