We’ve been celebrating National Apprenticeship Week this past week, giving a chance to showcase the positive impact apprenticeships have on people, businesses, and the wider economy.
As part of this, here is a short interview with Emily Hanley, our apprentice HR administrator, about her experiences at MediPro. Below is a video interview with Emily, plus a transcript.
“I left my previous job because I wanted something with more of a career choice and I stumbled upon the Northern Skills Group apprenticeship website, and they said that with my degree in Health Psychology, it would line up really well with a health company. Then I came across MediPro. “
“Because I am doing a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship at the moment, it gives me a lot of the core values of a workplace that I’ve never been in before. The programme helps me understand some of the core skills with IT that I wasn’t very familiar with. Getting to know my role in the business and how that affects the business as a whole.”
“I have short-term and long-term projects, along with my day-to-day tasks, so filing, make sure everyone is accounted for in terms of compliance and quality assurance, disciplinary, sickness absences. In terms of long-term projects, it’s working on presentation for staff and students about policies and legislation, leaflets and handouts for staff and students, that kind of thing.”
“Some days it’s more computer based, some days it’s just studying and getting to know policies and legislation more. Sometimes it’s going over to Faraday to get to know staff and students so that I’m familiar with names and faces. Some days are quite steady, just researching, reading, and getting to know a lot of the core law elements, like employment law.
“It’s very supportive, and they are more than willing to hear you out when you have problems or concerns, or even just your own opinion. I’ve been told by Brian himself, the managing director, that I’m not just an apprentice. He sees me as my own person. As someone who has the skills that help this company run, so I’m not overlooked. I’m appreciated and that’s a really nice feeling!”
