Advice from an ex-service Emergency Care Assistant

We regularly get questions from service leavers looking to get into the medical profession, it just so happens that one of our ECA’s is leaving us as they have joined Yorkshire Ambulance NHS trust.

Deian was a service leaver looking for a change in career and was nice enough to answer a couple of questions to help anyone in a similar situation.

Below are Deian’s answers

Why did you choose MediPro?
I chose MediPro because I saw an advert in one of the resettlement magazines and I looked at Emergency care as a new career after leaving the service and it was close to where I was living at the time.

How was the training you received?
The training I received was excellent. The tutors were clearly very experienced and were very good at explaining all aspects of anatomy and physiology, using clever teaching aids.

How well did it prepare you for the job?
The training and placement provided by MediPro put me in a unique position prior to my discharge where I was able to volunteer as an ECA, gaining valuable experience, before I was offered employment by them.

What experiences have you had/will take away with you?
The experiences I have gained, dealing with the public, patient care and dealing with vulnerable people has been invaluable.

How was your application process with YAS, did you feel well prepared?
My application process for YAS has been relatively straightforward, but the experiences that I have gained whilst working at Medipro prepared me with the answers that I needed during the interview.

Do you have any advice for fellow military personnel about to leave regarding this career path?
Yes, If you are looking at a fulfilling career and have a genuine desire to want to help people in need then this is the career for you. MediPro provided me stepping stone to a career, the staff were great to work with and every day is different
