This Remote and Offshore Thrombolysis course has been developed in accordance with national targets in mind. It is aimed at clinicians who may encounter a STMEI patient with extended journey times or who are not within a catchment areas of PPCI. Typical students on this thrombolysis training course include paramedics, nurses and offshore medics.
“If it is judged that local circumstances make it impossible to reduce ‘call-to-door’ times to less than 30 minutes, other models of care e.g. Out-of-hospital administration on thrombolysis, must be considered” – National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease, March 2000.
The Pre-Hospital Thrombolysis course will cover the following suggested topics:
- Taking a clinical history and differential diagnosis
- ECG interpretation
- Pathophysiology and presentation of acute coronary syndromes
- The history of thrombolysis and the various agents
- Indications and contra indications
- Case studies
- JRCALC and working within a PGD
After successful completion of a written assessment and case studies, students will be awarded a certificate of competency for their CPD folder.
It is recommended that students should complete this course every 3 years to maintain knowledge and skills.
Students must be a registered clinician or have extensive experience.
